In-situ rubber surfaces have made it possible to turn the playground surface itself into a piece of play equipment. The variety of colours, depths and ability to lay it to different gradients has changed the image of playgrounds in recent years. It is free draining, and easily cleaned, although more difficult to replace than the modular system. It is a preferred material for surfacing around play equipment.
